These sweet spiced biscuits are traditionally eaten between Halloween and All Souls Day on
2nd November but, as Betty says, no-one says if it's 2nd November this year, next or the year
after.
Ingredients
200g self raising flour, ½ teaspoon of mixed spice, ½ teaspoon cinnamon, ½ teaspoon ground
nutmeg, 100g butter,100g sugar, 50g currants, 1 beaten egg.
Method
1. Rub the butter into the flour and spices.
2. Stir in the sugar and currants.
3. Mix to a soft dough with the beaten egg.
4. Leave the dough to rest for an hour.
5. Roll out to ¼" thickness, cut into large rounds and mark each with a cross.
6. Bake for 20 mins at 180°C until pale golden brown.
