Growing Projects
We have partnered with local organisations and volunteers to develop, sustain and maintain community growing projects where we grow, nurture and produce fresh food for our pantries and communities.

About
Growing fresh food, skills and community
Baobab Bach’s growing projects help provide fresh, seasonal produce for our pantries and kitchen, while creating spaces where people can get involved, spend time outdoors and learn more about where food comes from.
Each growing space is different. Some are productive allotment plots, some are heritage-inspired gardens, and others are being developed as accessible spaces for wellbeing, learning and community activity. Together, they help us grow fruit, vegetables and herbs that can be used in our pantries, £5 bags and homemade meals.
Sustainability is at the heart of the way we work. Across our growing projects, we are exploring rainwater collection, natural fertilisers, wildlife-friendly planting, biodiversity, heritage varieties and natural pest control. These small steps help us care for the land while producing food that benefits local people.
The projects are also shaped by the people who use and support them. Volunteers play an important role in planting, watering, harvesting, maintaining the growing areas and helping bring new ideas to life. Whether you are an experienced gardener or have never grown anything before, there are opportunities to get involved, learn new skills and be part of something positive.
As our growing projects continue to develop, we want them to become places where food, nature, heritage and community come together – supporting local people today while helping create more sustainable food systems for the future.

Volunteering
Volunteers play a big part in helping our growing projects thrive.
Whether you are an experienced gardener or just keen to get outdoors and learn something new, there are plenty of ways to get involved – from planting and watering to harvesting fresh produce for our kitchen. It is a friendly, sociable way to spend time outside, meet new people and support local families through Baobab Bach’s food services.
